Community Relations

In addition to the highest standards of corporate governance which upholds the defined corporate principles along with the rights and interests of all stakeholders, we continue to support community development initiatives in the spirit of cooperation and goodwill towards the residents of the surrounding communities. LNPI actively seeks out opportunities for involvement and funding based on maximising the potential community benefits and the nature of requirements.

Liberia’s civil war that lasted for nearly 15 years left behind in its wake a terrible trail of education demolition. Today, the country has a low literacy rate of 41% and a majority of the 20-40 year olds lack proper formal education. Though the government prioritises construction of new schools, access to education and skill-building opportunities are still scarce and vocational training is necessary to help young people find employment.

LNPI provides all its employees’ children with free education in the company’s fully-functional primary school.

Liberia suffers from high mortality and morbidity rates caused by a combination of extremely poor living conditions and the absence of quality healthcare. Infectious diseases are rampant resulting in ill-health and poor productivity.

LNPI provides its employees and their dependents with free medical care in the company's on-site, operational clinic.

Liberia is among the wettest countries in the world with abundant rivers, swamps, mangroves and rainforests. Yet, large proportions of its population do not have access to clean drinking water. Water-borne diseases are a major cause of diseases.

LNPI guarantees operational boreholes with potable water throughout the year across all its neighbouring villages.

Liberia’s labour force is largely unskilled which makes it unemployable. LNPI has set out to solve this issue by offering on-the-job training facilities for all employee categories to enhance performance, job satisfaction, and prospects. Based on the need, we also conduct external training sessions to truly empower the labour force.

LNPI is always looking for opportunities to enhance its socio-economic-environmental impact. This is another initiative towards the proposed 1500 hectares smallholder program around its concession.

Once the finance has been obtained from interested Development Finance Institutions, this organic and internationally certified project will be implemented and the farmers will receive planting materials, inputs, technical guidance along with a ready market which accepts their fresh-fruit bunches. A food crop section will be included in the smallholder program, wherever appropriate.
