Liberia is among the most heavily forested nations in West Africa and it supports an incredible diversity of animals. Palm plantations, unless done sustainably, are devastating to natural forests. LNPI produces its palm oil organically and sustainably. complying with all international standards.
The International standards were formed as a response to increasing concerns and fears about the impact of palm oil production on environment and society. These standards establish production standards for all growers and set the best practices for producing and sourcing palm oil. Most importantly, it has the buy-in of the global palm industry with 4500+ members across 94 nations. Through its strict adherence, LNPI protects the environment and the local communities who depend on palm crops for their livelihoods. This ensures that palm oil can continue playing a key role not just in food security but also in economic development and betterment of food supply chains.
LNPI also follows all certification criteria such as EOS (EU), NOP (US), along with others and will be fully certified in the same by Q1 2023.
To create a comprehensive, all-inclusive forest conservation program, LNPI will build an Eco-guard program that actively protects the forest and the HCV regions along with a community awareness program. As an example, the Senkwehen forest reserve is adjacent to the LNPI concession, and a sizable portion of the concession is forested.
That apart, LNPI desists from chemical use, adopting 100% organic agriculture which blends science, creativity, and tradition to improve communities' quality of life, protect the environment, and promote just relationships. Instead of using inputs with negative impacts, it relies on biological processes, biodiversity, and cycles tailored to local conditions.
